Our Story

How We Met

It all started 5 years ago in 2005, when I sang my way into Shawn’s heart. No really I did! We met at Fats Bar & Billiards and under the stage name Miss Shepherd, I sang Tiny Dancer at Karaoke Night. We met each other through our mutual friends, Andy and Molly. At the time, I was teaching kindergarten with Molly and Shawn worked with Andy. It wasn’t until a year after building a friendship, that we started dating. Shawn picked me up to go to an OSU party at Andy and Molly’s house.

The Proposal

After putting many miles on our cars driving back and forth between our two places, Shawn popped the question on September 18, 2009. It was a Friday when I came home from school to let Hug out and then meet Shawn over at my parents’ house at 6:00pm. My sister, brother-in-law, and nephew were coming in town. It was a little after 5:00pm and I questioned whether or not I would have time to change my clothes before I was to meet Shawn at my parents’ house. Of course I would, Shawn’s always late I thought. So I grabbed a pair of pants to iron and went into my spare bedroom. It was really dark, the blinds were drawn, and as my eyes adjusted to the darkness I saw Shawn standing there. He has never been at my house after work because he usually works until 6:00pm. He scared me half to death,

and I dropped my pants…

the ones I was going to iron. I yelled, “What are you doing?!?!?” He got down on one knee and I said, “Oh!” He asked me to marry him and I said yes without even looking at the ring. Well I couldn’t see it anyway because it was so dark in my spare bedroom. So we went back to my bedroom and got a good look at my ring that Shawn picked out all by himself with my specific description of…

I want it square, with pretty stuff on the sides, and I don’t want to stab any little kids with it.

He followed my description precisely! I did; however, wonder if I wouldn’t have decided to go in my spare bedroom to iron my pants how the proposal would have gone.
